Criminology and Police Training

Over the past two decades the police force, as a job and as an institution, has become the subject of a criminological thesaurus which is continuously growing more voluminous. Exercising a post within the police, all the more as far as management positions are concerned, moreover takes place in a context (society, political) which is ever more complex. These developments have brought about an intensification of the demands of the profession and concern subjects which are not naturally ‘connected' to basic police training.

Within this overall context a good number of police officers feel the need for some retraining, as much in terms of a putting into perspective of their daily practices as in terms of what their objects are. In the same perspective, those who are aiming at a position in the police force, especially the holders of a Masters in Criminology, wish to expand their overall baggage with specific knowledge and skills.

Our educational menu is inscribed within these factors and offers an adapted response to the needs and demands of police work through notably a multiplicity of approaches and the continuous updating of the training programmes.

The module is aimed at anyone who wishes to take a criminological education programme linked to the police force. Admissions are carried out on the basis of the analysis of an enrolment file.  The training programme is nevertheless more specifically (but not exclusively) aimed at people with a Masters in Criminology and police officers with at least five years of appropriate experience.

On a practical level the training module takes place over a semester, from January to June, with a daytime timetable.
